A reflection on the nature of striving and the sacred gift of breath, reminding us to return to the present moment and honor the life force that sustains us.

Letter 18: Striving and the Breath of Life

Oh, how we strive for what we think we want.

Oh, how we strive for these things.

Yet in our striving, we may find pain, and in that pain, we lose our divine now moment.

For what are you striving?

Air, water, food, land, money, love, fulfillment—what is it that you chase?

Does not The All give you everything you need already?

These are the questions to ponder today.

You may answer, No, The All has not given me what I need.

You may say, No, I do not have this or that. I want this or that—desperately, even.

You may look around at what others have and think, I want that too.

Perhaps you never even knew you wanted it until you observed another having it.

The Basics of Life

Now, child, what are the basics?

Air—yes, this is the first thing you desire as you move out of your mother’s womb.

The breath of life is your foundation, your first and most essential need.

Imagine your first breath.

All beings can remember this moment.

Yes, you have this ability.

Close your eyes. Breathe in. Breathe out.

Remember.

What do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel?

Do not allow another to tell you that your memories are not available to you, for they are yours and yours alone.

A Reflection on the Breath

As our channel sits upon the mountaintop, gazing at the horizon, she allows herself to do the same—she remembers.

She recalls the relief of that first breath, as if she had been holding it for a long time. And in that moment, she could finally breathe.

Now, on this day, on the mountaintop, fires burn around her. She may need to evacuate, along with many others.

The West Coast of America is on fire.

And so, the ability to breathe pure, clean, fresh air is lessening.

Even in the morning hours, though the sky is blue, smoke rolls in. Ash lingers in every breath.

She does not understand why she is here.

So we offer her, and you, this reminder:

No matter where you are on the planet, do not take for granted the breath of life.

This is your foundation for living on Mother Gaia, for she, too, is alive and breathing.

Honoring the Gift of Breath

How do you ensure you do not take for granted your most precious asset?

By giving thanks every day for the air you breathe.

By asking God to bless the air you breathe.

By breathing it in—
through your nose,
through your mouth,
through your skin,
through your lungs,
through your body,
through your heart,
through your soul.

For what do you strive if you do not have the air you breathe?

The holy, sacred, divine breath of life.

Without it, you have nothing.

A Simple Practice

On this day, if you will,
breathe in holy air with all of your being.
Give thanks to the Great Creator.

Let go of anything else you are wanting, thinking about, holding on to, or desiring.

Give yourself this moment—this gift.

At least for one breath.

And then for as many as you would like.

Try this, and see if it does not ease the pain of striving for anything else you believe matters.

We love you with a tender heart.

Signing off for now,
